2010 Demographic Profile
Census data yielded an updated snapshot of population trends on Hawaii Island. With a highly diverse resident population now pegged at 185,079, Hawaii Island experienced the highest population growth rate in the state increasing 24.5% from 2000.

    • Nearly 30% of residents are of mixed race (highest in the state);
    • Median age has risen to 40.9 years;
    • Gender ratios are balanced (100.6 males per 100 females);
    • Housing units increased by 31.4% (highest rate in the state);
    • Rental vacancy rate of 11.6%; and
    • Homeownership rate of 66.0%.
